Rewe Group buys Hotelplan Group

REWE Group, through its DERTOUR travel division, has agreed to acquire a majority stake in the Hotelplan Group. This was a major transaction involving several European travel heavyweights.

It was a privilege to advise REWE and DERTOUR on the regulatory approval process, including securing terms with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the necessary Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL).

DETOUR Group is one of Europe’s leading travel groups, comprising more than 130 companies – including Kuoni, DETOUR, and Helvetic Tours – and employing over 10,000 people across 16 European countries.

The Hotelplan Group is a renowned leisure and business travel specialist with a workforce of approximately 2,500 people across 20 countries. Its UK division, Hotelplan UK, is one of the country’s largest providers of skiing and hiking holidays, with well-known brands like Inghams, Inntravel, Santa’s Lapland, and Explore Worldwide.

In REWE, the Hotelplan Group has found a remarkably similar owner to Migros. The REWE Group already acts as a custodian for many heritage travel brands and brings a long-term approach to business.

This was a complex, cross-border transaction, and we’re thrilled to see it successfully completed. Huge congratulations to all the teams in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland for getting it over the line.
