Matteo Levi recently joined the TTC team for a week of work experience ahead of starting university in Italy. During his time with us, he worked in different departments, to widen his knowledge and skills. Read about Matteo’s experience below:

The week I spent at TTC was my first step into the world of work. I’ve finished secondary school in Italy just two months ago, getting 100% in my final exam. In September, I’m starting university, precisely a course called management engineering, in which the main subjects are maths, physics and economics.

I thought this could be a big opportunity for me to develop certain skills and start using websites, systems and software I hadn’t used before.

Most importantly, it meant I could gain experience before starting university. I was sure it would be significant for both my personal life and at university to share, even for this little amount of time, a healthy workplace environment. Also to have “colleagues” I could learn from and a working schedule which I had to submit. All things that can be helpful on a day-to-day basis.

I started the week working from home, joining my first Zoom meeting to introduce myself to everyone in the company. Later, I met the marketing team, who assigned some tasks for the day, including searching for images in line with the brand guidelines and researching travel industry events.

The day after, I went to the office and, for the first time, I understood how it felt to be part of a working environment. We had a team meeting in the morning and then a team lunch. I had the opportunity to speak to other members of the team and get to know my ‘colleagues’ a little better. After, we headed back to the office, and I completed my tasks for the day.

I got to work with the other departments in TTC, including the strategy team.

Working with this team taught me the process of scaling up a company and how to find new investors.

Toward the end of the week, I was asked to analyse social media (LinkedIn and Twitter) stats and express them using PowerPoint charts. I had to ensure I used the company colours to make every detail clear. This was the task I enjoyed the most.

My week at TTC was exactly as I expected, and I’m very grateful for that. I applied for this work experience hoping to understand a little bit of what makes a company successful. From the marketing department to the strategic plans in place to the people who make up the company. The team members were kind and helpful and made me feel welcome. I’ve learned a lot of useful skills and improved the ones I already had. More importantly, I filled that need I had to do work experience. TTC helped me to gain real-life work experience before I move on to the next chapter of university.
